So often, my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook feeds are flooded with photos from friends with the captions like: "It's not about the destination, it's about the journey" or "Not all who wander are lost." It might be cliché but I have to say, I love it!
Journey. It is a simple word that bears such great weight. When I think about the journey I am on now I can't help but think of the ones I have taken to get to where I am right now writing this for you.
To me, there are three types of journeys:
Journeys of the Past
The Present-day Journey
Journeys to Come
Journeys of the Past make us who we are today. The sum of our experiences outweighs that of our assumptions about the world and act as our shining beacons of information in what can feel like a darkening world.
The Journeys to Come are just that, a path that has yet to be blazed but is often thought about. Journeys to Come really know how to mess with time... remember how long you waited for your birthday party as a kid? -FOREVER- but then the actual party went by so fast that it was not long before you found yourself sitting there thinking, "That was so quick, how come I felt like I waited an eternity for something that was gone in the blink of an eye?!"
For this post, I want to focus on The Present-day Journey. I think it is the most neglected of all our journeys because it is so easy to get excited about what could be in store for us in the future or to reminisce on what was and what we had.
Living in the moment seems to be the rarest commodity these days. Rather than truly experiencing our lives we tend to simply wade through them. Realizing what we have now increases our appreciation and understanding. Here is one disclaimer for you, it is not always a positive experience but it should always be powerful. As a wise mentor of mine once said: "If you're going through hell, keep going" (Winston Churchill).
Today, I don't want to talk about all of the incredible things that are to come for the Andrew Reid Consultancy (although there will be a ton!), I want to focus on what is happening right now. One major thing, you are reading this on our brand spankin' new website! Our programs have been piloted, polished and prepared (alliteration much?) to be some of the most compelling and unparalleled in the industry. I am so excited to be sharing them with you today.
There is another thing you will want to do when you focus on celebrating your present-day Journey; acknowledge your co-pilots. My co-pilot for this expedition? My marketing strategist, Kristen Voll. Kristen, if you're reading this (and I know you are because you're proofing it and posting it!) I hope you know how much I appreciate this endeavor we've embarked upon together.
